Ring in Her Hand

Chapter 101 · ~1.8k words

The freight depot smells like rust, grain dust, and endings people tried to warehouse. Federal teams go in from the loading bays while Nico keeps me in the command van and fails to make that feel protective. Gunshots do not follow, which is almost more frightening. Bell's kind prefers leverage to noise until the leverage breaks.

When they bring Callum out, he is bruised, furious, and alive. He waves away the medic long enough to grab my sleeve. "The camera stick," he says. "Did you open all six?"

"Yes."

"Good. Frame five is your knife."

I tell him it already is. He laughs once, then winces. "Bell kept saying Vivian still had one more offer for Tessa before hearing day. Said blood is cheaper when women volunteer."

The line chills me worse than the depot ever could. While medics work on Callum, I zoom again on frame five from the dock series. Vivian's hand is on Mia's shoulder, but in the other hand, clear enough now with enhancement, she is holding the ring itself, not just the box. Tessa's wedding ring pinched between two fingers like evidence deciding what body it belongs to.

Not Roman. not Owen. Vivian physically managed the switch.

Nico sees it too and exhales like a man who has finally been given permission to hate the right person plainly. "This is direct evidence handling with witness present," he says. "No judge can word around this forever."

"Forever isn't the timeline," Callum rasps from the gurney. "Hearing day's tomorrow."

And there it is, the last public clock moving into place. The image of Vivian with the ring in her hand becomes the hinge everything else swings on. If she can still bargain after this, then the state is filthier than I knew. If she can't, she will start burning assets fast. Family first. then fixers. then daughters.
