The Final Preparation

Chapter 94 · ~4.0k words

The ultimate insult hung in the air, a declaration of financial martial law. I nodded, keeping my eyes cast down, letting Julian believe he had successfully neutralized the threat. I waited until I heard the heavy thud of his bedroom door closing before I moved. I didn't go back to sleep. I went back to the office, my movements precise and silent.

The Hayes Family Gala was less than twenty-four hours away. The annual event was the crown jewel of Eleanor’s social calendar, a night where the entire city watched the Hayes family perform their perfection. It was the only night of the year Julian would be completely absorbed, out of reach of his phone, and surrounded by hundreds of witnesses.

I pulled the burner laptop from the drawer and initiated a secure video call to Marcus.

He answered immediately, his face illuminated by the glow of a dozen complex routing sequences. "Did you secure the seed?"

"I have access to the Zenith Fund," I confirmed, my voice a low, steady hum. I angled the camera so he could see the ledger. "Four point two million. I need to move it, Marcus. All of it. Before he checks the balance again."

Marcus adjusted his glasses, his eyes scanning the numbers I held up. "You can't just wire four million dollars to a domestic account, Clara. It will trigger every anti-money laundering alarm in the Federal Reserve. They’ll freeze the assets before the transfer completes."

"I don't want it in a domestic account," I corrected, my fingers resting lightly on the keyboard. "I want to execute three separate, staggered transfers."

I laid out the architecture of my own trap. The first transfer had to be surgical. "Transfer One: $1.2 million. Direct payoff of the Oak Brook mortgage. We clear the title on the Hidden House completely."

Marcus frowned, his fingers pausing over his keyboard. "Why clear the debt on the house you're trying to escape?"

"Because it’s in my name," I said, the logic cold and irrefutable. "If the house goes into foreclosure, my credit is destroyed. If the debt is cleared, the asset is free and clear. I need that property unencumbered for the next step."

"Okay," Marcus agreed, typing the routing sequence for the regional bank. "And Transfer Two?"

"Three hundred thousand," I said, the number tasting like ash and vengeance. "Routed directly back into Chloe and Leo's 529 accounts. We undo the theft."

Marcus nodded, his expression grim. "That leaves two point seven million. Where does the rest go?"

"Transfer Three," I said, my voice dropping to a whisper. "We use the IRS Whistleblower protocol. We wire the remaining balance into the federal escrow account designated for the Hayes Family Trust investigation. I filed the initial tip two weeks ago. This wire will provide the physical proof of the offshore tax evasion."

Marcus stopped typing. He looked at me through the screen, the silence in his workshop matching the silence in my house. "Clara, if you execute these transfers using the cloned seed, the Cayman bank will require a secondary SMS authentication. They’ll text Julian’s phone."

"I know," I said, my pulse finally spiking. "Leo gave me a backend exploit. A way to bypass the SMS routing by bouncing the authorization request through the defunct shell company servers."

"It’s a fragile exploit," Marcus warned. "It will work, but the Cayman servers will detect the bypass and initiate a total system lockdown. The transfers will clear, but Julian will receive a zero-balance notification immediately after the final wire hits."

"How long will the sequence take?" I asked.

"Twelve minutes," Marcus replied, his tone heavy with the gravity of the timeline. "From the moment you initiate the first transfer, you will have exactly twelve minutes before the system locks down and Julian gets the alert."

I looked at the clock on the wall. The gala started at 8:00 PM. Julian was scheduled to give the keynote address at 9:00 PM.

They needed a 12-minute window where Julian was completely distracted. The Hayes Family Gala was tomorrow.
